Arcane Plateau
Big words and an impossible question! As impossible as recalling forgotten memories, apprehending the future, or writing the past unknown that is history. However, it is perhaps only impossible if the purpose is to get it ‘right.’ So, instead, what Thanawat has done is to immerse himself in what writing and art can offer: the fictional world with all the impossible and infinite possibilities. ‘Arcane Plateau’ is a universe in which Thanawat has conjured speaking animals, immortal beings, burning meteorites, the war of god against earthly creatures, the many great floods, and first-ever humans, among other wonders, all of which transpire simultaneously and take place ubiquitously.

Arcane Plateau – คำสาปที่ราบสูง is his first solo exhibition, and the book that will be “selling” is also his first ever pocketbook as well. คำสวยหรูและคำถามที่ไม่น่าจะมีใครตอบได้! คงเป็นไปไม่ได้แบบไม่ต่างอะไรจากการจดจำความทรงจำที่ลืมไปแล้ว การทำความเข้าใจอนาคตที่ยังมาไม่ถึง หรือการเขียนประวัติศาสตร์ของอดีตที่ไม่รู้จัก แต่ทั้งหมดนี้อาจจะเป็นไปไม่ได้เพียงเพราะเราตามหา ‘ความถูกต้อง’ บางอย่าง และเพราะความเป็นไปไม่ได้มันมีเงื่อนไขแบบนี้ ธนวัฒน์จึงพาตัวเองเข้าไปดำว่ายในสิ่งที่ศิลปะและงานเขียนอาจจะให้เราได้เสียแทน นั่นคือ โลกสมมติแห่งความเป็นไปได้ที่ทั้งไม่น่าจะเป็นไปได้และไร้จุดจบ ‘Arcane Plateau’ คือโลกที่ธนวัฒน์เสกร่ายขึ้นมา จงมีสัตว์พูดได้ สิ่งมีชีวิตอมตะ ดาวหางไฟลุกโชน สงครามระหว่างทวยเทพและสัตว์โลก น้ำท่วมใหญ่หลายครั้ง และมนุษย์คนแรก ทั้งหมดนี้แค่ส่วนหนึ่งของสิ่งอัศจรรย์ที่ดำเนินไปพร้อมกัน ทั่วโลกทั้งใบ

นิทรรศการ Arcane Plateau – คำสาปที่ราบสูงนี้ ถือเป็นนิทรรศการเดี่ยวครั้งแรกของศิลปิน รวมทั้งหนังสือที่จะเปิดตัว “ขาย” ที่ห้องสมุดประชาชีนี้ ก็เป็นผลงานในรูปแบบจัดเต็มๆ เป็นเล่มพ๊อกเก็ตบุ้คของแฟรงค์เช่นกัน แกรนด์มาอยากชวนทุกๆ คนมาดูผลงานศิลปะ และร่วมอ่านงานเขียนของแฟรงค์ร่วมกัน ว่าไอ้คำสาปที่ราบสูงนี้ มันสูงมากขนาดไหนกันนะ จะสูงเท่าเสียงข้ามั้ย มาลองดูกัน

ธนวัฒน์ นุ่มเจริญ เกิดและโตที่ศรีสะเกษ จังหวัดหนึ่งบริเวณที่ราบสูงของภาคอีสาน ประเทศไทย เขาจบการศึกษาด้านศิลปะ จากคณะจิตรกรรม ประติมากรรมและภาพพิมพ์ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร ธนวัฒน์ทำงานกับสื่อที่หลากหลาย ปรับเปลี่ยนไปตามการเรียกร้องของเนื้องาน ธนวัฒน์สนใจสำรวจมิติทางสังคมและการเมืองของปฏิสัมพันธ์ระหว่างมนุษย์กับโลก เขามองความสัมพันธ์เหล่านั้นผ่านจินตนาการของเรื่องเล่า เทวตำนาน สัตว์และสิ่งประหลาด ความคลุมเครือและความเหลือเชื่อของ “เรื่องแต่ง” เหล่านี้เองคือหนึ่งในช่องทางที่ธนวัฒน์ทำความเข้าใจมุมมอง ความเชื่อและความสัจจริงของมนุษย์ที่อาจไม่มีอยู่จริงและเหลือเชื่อกว่าเรื่องแต่งเสียเอง ในปี 2021 ธนวัฒน์ได้แสดงผลงาน This room is too small for many people ในนิทรรศการกลุ่ม The Place of Memories ที่ SAC Gallery โดยผลงานนำเสนอภาพตัวแทนทางภววิทยาผ่านการเปลี่ยนแปลงและความแปลกต่างของวัตถุที่จัดแสดง ในปีเดียวกันนั้นธนวัฒน์แสดงผลงาน Silkroad Monsters ในนิทรรศการกลุ่ม Crypto for Cryptids ที่ JWD Art Space ที่สำรวจการแลกเปลี่ยนเรื่องเล่าและรูปลักษณ์ของสัตว์ประหลาดผ่านเส้นทางสายไหม Arcane Plateau เป็นนิทรรศการเดี่ยวครั้งแรกของเขา
Thanawat Numcharoen was born and grew up in Srisaket, a province located in the plateau of Isaan, Northeastern Thailand. He graduated with a degree in fine arts, from the Department of Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts, from Silpakorn University. Thanawat works with many mediums, depending on what is suitable and required of each work. Thanawat is interested in the socio-political aspect of how humans interact with the world around them. He explores the theme through the speculative imaginations of storytelling, myths, as well as strange creatures and objects. The ambiguity and incredibility of these “fictional” approaches are the qualities with which Thanawat makes sense of human’s worldview, beliefs, and the truth that may not exist in the first place and could be more incredible that fiction itself. In 2021, Thanawat presented This room is too small for many people in a group exhibition, ‘The Place of Memories’ at SAC Gallery. This work presents the ontological representations through the peculiar and transient nature of the exhibited objects. In the same year, Thanawat’s Silkroad Monsters was included in another group exhibition titled ‘Crypto for Cryptids’ at JWD Art Space. Silkroad Monsters could be considered his earlier explorations into the exchange, flux, and flow of stories which shape the forms of monsters along the Silk Road. Arcane Plateau is his first solo exhibition.
